The German Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ) is deeply concerned about recent actions by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that weaken established scientific institutions essential to evidence-based public health and pediatric care.
Independent scientific structures are fundamental to protect the health of children and adolescents. Their erosion threatens scientific integrity, public trust, and the quality of health policy and medical care.
The DGKJ explicitly supports the critical position of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in defending science-based decision-making and the independence of scientific institutions. These principles are shared by pediatric societies worldwide and are indispensable for safeguarding children’s health.
The DGKJ calls on policymakers to respect scientific autonomy and to ensure that health policy is guided by the best available evidence. Protecting scientific institutions is not a political issue, but a professional and ethical obligation.
